Martin Šauer, born in 1963, can be introduced as a film critic, film enthusiast, and a person with a deep interest in film studies, visual art, and auteur forms of audiovisual creation. He belongs to a generation of viewers who have spent decades watching, thinking about, and discussing cinema, which is reflected in his broad general cultural knowledge.

He has long been interested primarily in auteur, experimental, and visually distinctive cinema. He is particularly close to the poetics of Czech cinematic imagination, especially the work of Jan Švankmajer, Karel Zeman, and other artists who were able to connect film, animation, visual art, fantasy, and inventive craftsmanship. He appreciates stop-motion animation, traditional special effects, and working with material, image, and the handmade artistic gesture.

He is a member of the Hradec Králové Film Club and was formerly also a member of the Ponrepo Film Club. In addition to his critical and theoretical interest in film, he also has experience with his own creative work. He contributed to the creation of click-and-cut videos for the projects of Professor Neutrino and Katsa Theo, where he worked, among other things, with classical analog film. This relationship to material, physical film stock, and manually created imagery is an important part of the way he perceives audiovisual art.

Besides film, he is also involved in photography and visual art. His work includes collages, performative projects, and other original artistic activities. He has completed several successful projects in which cinematic thinking, visual culture, experimentation, and a distinctive personal view of the world intersect.
